With the help of all our staff and generous guests, we’ve helped make a difference to the lives of many young people in our local area through Cash For Kids, supported by local radio station Wave 105. In 2016 we raised £23,570 and here’s one of the charities we’re helping in 2017.
FJB Hotels donated £2,845 to The Bourne Academy which will support the costs for an online assessment/activity planner helping staff, parents/social workers to identify emotional needs of vulnerable young people.
Plus, our donation will contribute to, the Carers Club supporting 40 young carers with their weekly club and outings during 2017. The club gives these children an opportunity have fun with others – enjoy playing games, going on outings, relaxing with refreshments and perhaps even being counselled if needed. Spending time with other young people in a similar situations make them realise they are not alone. They have a break from their home life and time for themselves, have someone to talk to, to listen to them, and also give them a chance to do things they may not be able to do with their own family.
In Bournemouth, the charity has found a high number of young carers who are looking after a family member who is sick, disabled or has mental health problems. These children have day-to-day responsibilities which include cooking, cleaning, shopping, giving emotional support, providing nursing, and even personal care. This leaves little free time to themselves and they often miss out on opportunities that other children have, to play and learn.
Caroline Gobell, on the Parent Voice committee, says “these children can become isolated, with no relief from the pressures at home, and no chance to enjoy a normal childhood”. These groups truly make a difference to their lives and their families.
